Nonpartisan Voters Dominate as Republicans Hold Slight Edge Over Dems

According to the Nevada Secretary of State's office, there are 2,128,758 active registered voters in the state. Of these registered voters, 799,056 are Nonpartisan (37.54%), 596,356 are Republicans (28.01%), 593,740 are Democrats (27.89%), 90,436 are members of the Independent American Party (4.25%), 15,000 are members of the Libertarian Party of Nevada (0.70%), and 34,170 are members of other minor political parties (1.61%).

For about a year, Republicans have held more active registrations than Democrats in Nevada for the first time since 2007, although the numbers for the two major parties have remained close. Both parties recorded net losses in 2025, while nonpartisan registrations increased.

These changes in Nevada align with national trends in party-affiliated registrations. Republicans gained in most states that track party affiliation. Democrats saw a decrease of about 2.1 million registrants nationally, while Republicans increased by about 2.4 million, for a net shift of roughly 4.5 million toward Republicans. Nevada's automatic voter registration system has contributed to growth in nonpartisan registrations and affected major party numbers.

Nevada remains a battleground state where elections are decided by small margins. Nonpartisan voters form the largest group. Younger voters under age 35 and under age 45 have shown shifts toward Republicans in recent years, both in Nevada and nationally.

Turning Point continues its Chase the Vote initiative in Nevada, focusing on contacting disengaged voters, encouraging ballot returns, and boosting conservative turnout for the 2026 midterms. The Democratic National Committee has run voter registration drives in Nevada and elsewhere, emphasizing youth and other key demographics to increase Democratic registrations.

The presence of a large nonpartisan electorate and ongoing demographic changes require both parties to adjust their registration and outreach strategies.
