Republicans Lead Nevada Voter Registrations for More Than 16 Months

Republicans have maintained a lead over Democrats in Nevada active voter registrations for more than 16 months (since January 2025), according to May 2026 Secretary of State data. Republicans currently have 574,522 active registrations compared with 568,778 for Democrats, a difference of 5,744 voters. The total active registered voter pool stands at 2,061,557.

The Republican lead is partly the result of routine voter roll maintenance required under the National Voter Registration Act. In addition, an influx of residents from California, many looking to leave Democratic Party policies, has also contributed to Republican gains in Nevada.

The shift continues a decade-long trend. In 2016, Democrats held an 88,818-voter registration lead when Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Jacky Rosen won statewide races. By 2022, although still leading, the Democratic edge dropped to 52,340 when Republican challenger Joe Lombardo defeated incumbent Governor Steve Sisolak by more than 15,000 votes. In 2024, Democrats still led in active registrations by about 7,176 voters. Nevertheless, Republican President Donald Trump carried Nevada by 46,008 votes, while incumbent Democrat Senator Jacky Rosen won re-election too.

Nonpartisan voters, the largest bloc at 786,136, heavily influence split-ticket results. Their numbers grew sharply after Automatic Voter Registration took effect in 2020, which registers people at the DMV by default as Nonpartisan unless they opt out.
