Nevada’s Population Growth Outpaces Most States

Nevada continues to outpace most states in population growth. Between 2024 and 2025, Nevada added 28,600 residents, an increase that placed it among the top 10 fastest-growing states and well above the national growth rate.

According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, this growth was driven primarily by migration: roughly 14,900 from domestic movers and 10,600 from international immigration, with a modest natural increase of 3,100 (births minus deaths).

Over the past decade (2015–2025), Nevada’s population expanded by about 15%, the 5th-fastest rate among all states and more than double the U.S. average of 6.2%. Nevada’s growth has remained remarkably consistent, with positive gains recorded every year since 2000.

For Nevada voters, these trends carry real weight. As a premier swing state, even modest population shifts can influence tight races. New arrivals, many from other states, often bring different priorities around housing affordability, job opportunities, education, and infrastructure. These issues resonate strongly in Clark County (Las Vegas), Washoe County (Reno), and rural Nevada.

Rapid growth also intensifies competition for resources, heightening debates over development, water rights, and public services compared to slower-growing states. On the positive side, Nevada’s rising population bolsters its influence in the Electoral College and future congressional apportionment relative to states with stagnant or declining numbers.

Bottom line: Nevada’s demographic boom is inherently political. Candidates who grasp how these population shifts are reshaping the electorate will hold a clear advantage in 2026 and beyond.
