Poll: Nevadans Reject Federal Election Takeover, Back Mail-Voting Limits and Voter ID

A February poll of 600 Nevadans conducted by The Tarrance Group found that a strong majority (80%) of respondents believe states should set and run their own elections, with federal agencies playing a limited oversight role.

A majority of respondents (55%) supported repealing the current law that automatically mails ballots to all registered voters and shifting to an opt-in system. Support was significantly higher among Republicans (75%) than Democrats (34%).

While the U.S. Supreme Court weighs a case on counting mail ballots after Election Day in Mississippi, a ruling that could affect Nevada’s current four-day post-election allowance, a majority (51%) of respondents supported requiring all mail ballots to be received by Election Day.

Nevada voters will also decide on a voter-ID ballot initiative in 2026. A majority (66%) of respondents backed requiring voter identification, while 34% opposed it. The same measure passed with 73% of the vote in 2024 and must win approval again in November 2026 to take effect.

The poll was sponsored by RightCount Nevada, a nonprofit aimed at restoring trust in elections.
